The Hullmaster 31 was a Ted Brewer design built at Picton Heights Ontario. At that time, fiberglass and epoxy were available at reasonable cost and therefore the builder could be generous. Both the Canadian built Douglas 31 and the Hullmaster 31 are not well known in Canada but serious sailors still appreciate the quality of construction, the heavy displacement and excellent sea-kindliness.
Gratia shows well. The electronics on board are current and consist of a depth-sounder, Knot-log(speedometer) and in 2010 a GPS chart plotter, autopilot, and VHF both wired to the GPS to provide location and course keeping as well as in case of emergency. The canvas is in good condition. And the electric windlass is a must have for serious sailors. There is an all chain rode (5/16" HT Galvanized chain) and also a mixed rode of 5/16" HT chain with 100' of rode.
The deck and cockpit sole have been re-cored with Core Cell, rather than balsa, in 2000 and the hull was epoxied in 2010.
The vessel rests on a very robust, custom made, cradle while on the hard.
If you are looking for a well built vessel that can provide you with a great many reliable hours of cruising pleasure, and quite capable of taking you on the trip of a lifetime to escape our Canadian winters, you definitely should put this one high on your list to view. You will not be disappointed.
